The police in Jigawa State have arrested a gang of four who allegedly specialise in stealing property belonging to mosques in the state.

Parading the suspects, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdu Jinjiri, said the suspects who were between the ages of 18 and 19 were arrested following a tip off from members of the public.

He identified the suspects as Yahaya Abdullahi (18), Ali Isiyaku (18), Aliyu Hassan (18) and Anas Adamu (19) identified as the receiver of the stolen property. Jinjiri said the suspects specialised in stealing copies of the Holy Qur’an, amplifiers, generator sets, picked pockets and stole handsets.

He said the suspects had since confessed to the crime and that as soon as investigation was completed they would be arraigned.

One of the suspects, Ali Isiyaku, said he did not steal the copies of the holy book but only packed them to their house for safe keeping.
