40 EndHunger protesters arraigned in Kano

The police in Kano have arraigned 40 suspected EndHunger protesters, who took part in the street violence from August 1 to 10, 2024.

The prosecuting counsel, Barr Aminu Kawu, arraigned the suspects before the Kano Magistrate’s Court No. 54 sitting in Norman’s Land. They and were charged with conspiracy to commit different crimes and public disturbance.

Three of the suspects arraigned were discharged and acquitted for lack of evidence against them.

Ibrahim Sulaiman and 19 other accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to six months in prison with a fine option of N40,000 each.

Seven others accused of conspiracy to commit different crimes and causing disinfection were sentenced to six months in prison with an option of N40,000 fine each.

The presiding judge, Ibrahim Mansir Yola, ordered the remand of the remaining suspects in a correctional centre till October 8, 2024, pending advice from the Director of State Public Prosecutions.
