40 militants surrender arms in Edo State

The   arms  were  surrendered  at Egbema  Junior  Secondary  School,  Ofuama  arms  collection  point  in  Ovia  South  West  local  government  area  of  Edo  state.

Arms surrendered included two AK-47 IFN rifle, seven G3 rifle. Eight dane guns and one locally-made artillery gun.

Others were five dynamite, fifty entry cartridges, twelve empty magazines, one telescopic rifle, two locally-made artillery bullets and one sub-machine gun.

The leader of the militants’ groups, Henry Binidodogha also known as Egbema 1, though lauded the Federal Government for the amnesty initiative, lamented that the people of the region had been marginalised for too long.

He said they had played their role in the disarmament process, adding that “we are waiting for the sincerity of the Federal Government”.

But the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole assured the people that the sincerity of President Musa Yar’Adua was not in doubt, using the medium to challenge government and its intervention agencies to ensure the development of the Niger Delta.

According to him, “it is our challenge and that of the Federal Government with all its intervention agencies, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Edo State Government together with the Local Government for all of us to play our part to ensure that development indeed takes place in this part of the country”.
