419: Man jailed three years for N5m fraud

A federal high court in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a 33-year-old Ajibola Ayodele to three years jail term for defrauding one Mrs Bosede Ilesanmi of five million Naira (N5,000,000).

The Presiding Judge, Justice D. U Okorowo while delivering his judgment found the defendant guilty and convicted him without an option of fine.

Justice Okorowo also ordered that two plots of land of the convicted, which were acquired from the proceed of the fraud be sold to pay the victim.

But he ordered that the jail term commenced from February 18.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Ojo Osobu had told the court that the defendant, now convict; committed the offence between November 20014 and  May 2015 in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital.

The charge sheet with number FHC/AD/30c/2015 reads thus:"That you, Ajibola Ayodele, 33,m between Nov.,20014 and  May 2015 at Ado-Ekiti, under false pretence and intent to defraud.

"You obtained goods value N5,000,000 property of one Mrs Bosede Ilesanmi, the Distributor of Just Diaper, Ekiti State."

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed was punishable under Sections 1(3) and 11 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Fraud Offence Act, 2006.

The convict, who was represented by Mr Olusola Olarewaju, pleaded not guilty, when the charge was read to him by the court.

His counsel, however prayed the court to temper justice with mercy.
