The Lagos Police Command yesterday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Ilesanmi Idowu, before an Ikeja magistrate’s court for alleged intent to defraud one Bola Dahunsi of the sum of N12,367,000 under the pretence he was a licensed customs agent who could clear for the complainant three containers loaded with stadium seats.

Idowu was arraigned before Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa on a four-count charge bordering on pretence and theft.

Police prosecutor Inspector N. Peter, said the accused committed the offence between May 2017 and July 31, 2017 at Onipanu, Lagos State.

Idowu and others at large, on the same date, time and place, were said to have issued several First Bank cheques with intent to defraud. The First Bank cheque numbers were 62635507, dated August 25, 2017 for N800,000; 62635506 September 1, 2017, for N600,000; and 62635508 dated September 29, 2017, for N1.177m, in favour of Bola Dahunsi. But all the cheques were understood to have been returned unpaid due to insufficient funds in the account of the suspect.  The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.  Mrs Aje-Afunwa granted him bail in the sum of N1.2m, with a surety who must provide tax verification.

She adjourned the case to December 4, 2017 for mention.
