430 Ogun VSO officers begin training in police studies

At least, 430 officers of the Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO) have commenced a five-day training in policing, as part of efforts to bring about effective performance and enhance their capacity for better security services in the state.

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, spoke while declaring open the training programme in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State command at the Vigilante Academy in Ilaro, yesterday.

Ojuko stated that regular training programmes were essential not only for development, but were an avenue to improve attitudes, skills and knowledge.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the ministry’s Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Dolapo Adewumi, said that the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration was committed to security of lives and property in the state.

"On assumption of duty, over 150 Toyota Pick-Up vans with state-of-the -art security gadgets were purchased and a total of 13 numbers of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) were distributed across the state to support security organizations, which was an indication that the present administration would not rest until its citizens were well protected.

“I therefore charged our officers to  make the best out of this training so that you complement the efforts of the state government and also deliver better services through operational and information-gathering techniques that would aid  in securing our state," Ojuko stated.

The State Commander of VSO, Mr. Soji Ganzallo, assured that members of the Corps were ready and prepared to combat any form of menace and criminality in the state.
