The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East zone yesterday said that the support Ndigbo gave President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was yet to be rewarded.
Spokesman of the party in the zone Osita Okechukwu said this while addressing APC supporters at a road show in Awgu Local Government area of Enugu State.
Okechukwu said Ndigbo deserved a better deal for supporting Jonathan in 2011 and not uncountable broken promises.
“Are Ndigbo wrong in putting all our eggs in one basket? Look at how Jonathan awarded multi- billion contract for the construction of Loko-Owete the Benue River Bridge similar to the 2nd Niger Bridge. The Loko-Owete Bridge is nearing completion while the 2nd Niger Bridge is under questionable toll bridge bond,” Okechukwu said.
He recalled that President Jonathan had promised during the 2011 electioneering campaign to go on exile if the 2nd Niger Bridge was not completed by the end of his tenure in 2015.
“To compound matters, Gani Adams, the National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress exposé confirmed the utter negligence or better stated lack of regard of Ndigbo by our dear president,” he added.
He said from all indications, Ndigbo’s uncommon and unflinching support for Jonathan and indeed for the PDP has not been fairly rewarded, as exemplified by uncountable broken promises.
Okechukwu recalled that Jonathan had promised to revamp coal in the South-East, but four years down the line, it has become a conduit pipe where billions budgeted annually for 3rd Seismic Survey to study for coal has been serially fleeced off without due process.
