About 450 orphans and less-privileged children were at the weekend presented with free educational materials as support to boost teaching, learning and retention ahead of the new academic session in Katsina.
Daily trust reports that each beneficiary received a school bag, exercise books, pencils, erasers and blanket.
Speaking at the occasion, governor Aminu Masari commended the philanthropic gesture of the sponsor Hajiya Binta Abba Umar and urged others to key in to support government in its effort to reposition the educational sector.
He said his administration is working tirelessly to restore the lost glory of the sector adding that it was informed by this that government prioritise the sector since its assumption into office.
In her remarks, the donor, Binta Umar said the idea to reach out to the less privilege and the vulnerable was part of her belief that a little can go a long in boosting morale towards educating a person.
She said, the assistance was meant to support people of her community towards seeking knowledge which is the bedrock of any development.
