The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 471 pharmacies and patent medicine stores in Edo State.

Addressing journalists in Benin, Dr. Suleiman Chiroma, PCN’s Head of Enforcement, said the premises were sealed for contravening relevant regulations of the council.

“A total of 743 premises, comprising 196 pharmacies and 547 patent medicine stores, were inspected during the enforcement exercise.

“Specifically, the 471 premises sealed include 77 pharmacies, 174 patent medicine stores, and 220 unlicensed shops,” he said.

According to him, one person was arrested for obstructing the council inspectors in the discharge of their duties.

He said the enforcement was carried out in Oredo, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia North-East, Egor, and Uhunmwonde Local Government Areas of the state.

He listed their regulatory breaches to include operation of unlicensed premises, non-compliance with premises registration renewal requirements, unauthorized clinical practice, among others.
