Between January till date, the National Human Rights Commission ( NHRC ) has been monitoring about 48 cases of child violation especially rape cases on little girls, Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof Bem Angwe has said.
He said this when he recieved the Executive Arm of the Children Government of Nigeria who came to submit a petition on the rape case of a four-year-old girl by the school proprietor of Victory International School, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
He said that for the past three years as well, various rape cases of children below 10 years old have been under investigation.
Angwe said it was unfortunate that the nation was yet to recover from the trauma of the missing Chibok girls, it is now faced with rape cases of the little girl child.
He said the commission was faced with a challenge of lack of coporation and information by parents and community members during investigations in the bid to avoid stigmatisation.
Condemning the act of rape and child violation in the country, Angwe said the commission was determined to punish anyone found guilty.
On her part, President of the Children Government of Nigeria, Hajiya Zainab Mohammed said it was unfortunate that the Nigerian police where the case was reported could grant bail to the proprietor  who committed the act stressing that “his bail may be for him to go and rape another baby in the womb.”
She said it was unfortunate that “our mothers who are supposed to protect and defend our rights are quiet” hence calling for justice metted on the man and “he must be castrated.”
Mohammed urged that the school be closed down and taken over by the government.
