The African Centre for Justice and Human Rights(ACJHR) has described as outright noise, the 48 hours ultimatum the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly issued gave Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 appropriation bill.

ACJHR said the action of the sacked lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike who is the Minster of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as anti people and indication that they were the enemies of Rivers people.

The Centre in statement by its… said despite all the humiliation of being removed from the Assembly following their unlawful defection and court ruling, the Martin Amaewhule-led faction still persists in their servitude to Wike, helping him to stifle the progress of the South-south state.

It cautioned the former lawmakers against taking the peaceful and lawful disposition of Governor Fubara who indicated interest in implementing the recent Supreme Court judgement, saying their status was still being challenged in the court and until the outcome, they remain sacked.

“We reviewed with utter dismay the news that the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 appropriation bill.

“The sacked lawmakers’ action who are in perpetual servitude to Wike is anti-people and inimical to the peace, stability and progress of Rivers State which further portrayed them as enemies of the state.

“May be they are ignorantly emboldened by the Supreme Court judgement which the Governor Fubara magnanimously accepted to implement after carefully reviewing its Certified True Copy (CTC).

“In the meantime, the governor has
directed the Heads of Local Government Administration to immediately take over the administration of the 23 local government councils pending the conduct of fresh elections by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

“He further directed the outgoing local government chairmen to formally hand over the levers of power to the Heads of Local Government Administration by Monday, 3rd March 2025.

“But this is not for Martin Amaewhule and his co-travellers to converge somewhere under the pretext of sitting as a State Assembly members and dish out nonsense in the name of issuing an order, giving the governor ultimatum. Nigeria is not a banana republic where such rascality will be condoned.”
