48-year-old man jailed for stealing cigarettes, liquor in Adamawa

A 48-year-old man, Mathias Yusuf, has been handed a three-month jail term as well as community service for stealing cigarettes and liquor in Adamawa State.

He received the three-month jail term from the Jail Delivery Committee (JDC) headed by Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, the State Chief Judge, during a jail delivery session.

Yusuf was earlier remanded at the Jimeta Custodial Centre by the Chief Magistrate Court II on the 19th of August, 2025, for the offence of theft, contrary to Section 278 of the Penal Code Law.

The convict confessed to the committee that he had stolen cigarettes as well as six bottles of liquor at a beer parlour in Jambutu, Yola North LGA.

He drank the liquor and got drunk, as a result of which he was apprehended.

He was jailed for three months from the time of the remand and ordered to sweep a health facility at Jambutu.
