Preparation for the Competition has reached an advanced stage as four categories of participants have been announced to give opportunity to artists at all levels, who may be interested to participate in the contest to submit their works for entry.

Pupils in Primary schools, students of secondary and tertiary institutions will compete in categories one to three, respectively, while professional Artists will participate in the fourth and last categories.

The competition also allow for flexibility as it gives four different sub-themes from which participants should choose to develop and present their  works for the contest. The sub-themes are Unity in Diversity, the Nation of my Dream, National Security, Everybody’s Business and One Love One Nation. Moreover, competitors are at liberty to use any medium of their choice to present their finished works for the competition.

The Competition which debuted in 2008 is aimed at discovering and nurturing the talents of Nigerian pupils, students and professional artists across the nation. Management of the National Gallery of Arts studied carefully the employment opportunities in the Visual arts sub-sector, and therefore decided to take the bull by the horns by initiating the competition to complement government’s policy on job creation and self-reliance.

The theme for this year’s competition is titled ‘’ National Security and Tolerance: A Roadmap to Development.’’

Zonal and final selections of works have been slated for September, while award of prizes to winners at the grand finale, which is the climax of the event, is expected to come up on October 23.
