Operatives of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), in collaboration with the Lagos State police command, yesterday arrested five suspects at the Computer Village, Ikeja, for alleged piracy of copies of a movie.

 The NCC put the value of the movie at N2 million.  

The NCC Lagos Zonal Manager, Mr Obi Ezeilo, said the arrest followed  a report at the Area ‘F’ Command, Ikeja, by the Elfike Film/Koga Studios, that its movie, ‘The Wedding Party’, was being pirated.

According to Ezeilo, the complainant said the movie had not even been released to the market.

“The police investigation led to the arrest of five suspects with some pirated copies of the movie worth millions of naira in their possessions. The suspects had already sold millions of copies of the pirated movie,” he said.

He added that the suspects were arrested while hawking pirated copies of the movie on the streets.

 The zonal manager said investigation was still on, adding that the commission would prosecute the culprits in due course.
