The police in Ekiti State have arraigned five people at the Chief Magistrates’ court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over alleged felony to wit assault a 72-year-old Remi Babaniwura, causing bodily harm.
The defendants include Ajayi Mayowa, 52, Ajayi Taiwo, 19, Ajayi Kehinde, 19, Ajayi Oluwaseyi, 34, and Ogunsakin Ayomide, 15.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and one other at large on January 7, at about 09:30am at Iluomoba-Ekiti within Ode-Ekiti Magisterial District, did conspire together to assault, resulting in bodily harm.
Inspector Oriyomi said the defendants and one other at large on the same date, time and place did unlawfully assault Babaniwura, resulting in bodily harm.

The prosecutor added that the offence committed is punishable under Section 421, 186 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant them bail, saying they would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety each and adjourned the case till February 11, for hearing.
