Five men were on Tuesday docked before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly being in possession of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp.

The defendants are Gambo Salisu, Yahaya Lawal, Isiya Abdullahi, Nura Sefulahi and Yahuza Ibrahim.

The police charged them with belonging to a gang of thieves and being in possession of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The prosecuting counsel, Samuel Emmanuel, told the court that a team of police officers led by ASP James Ijika attached to Ambush Squad Katampe Police Station arrested the defendants on June 17.

Emmanuel alleged that the police officers intercepted the defendants while they were constituting nuisance and upon a search, dry leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa were recovered from them.

The Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, admitted each of them to N500,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the matter until July 15, for hearing. (NAN)
