5 dead, 7 injured in Ogun accidents

Five persons were confirmed dead while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries in two separate accidents which occurred along two federal highways in Ogun State yesterday.

The first crash, where four persons lost their lives, happened along the ever-busy Sango-Ota/Idiroko border road, while the second crash occurred along the Sagamu-Benin expressway, killing one person.

The Sango-Ota/Idiroko border road accident which occurred at Oke-Odan town around 8.45a.m involved an 18-seater passenger bus with registration number Lag KSF 01 XC, which had a head-on collision with a Cabster truck marked Lag LSD 491 XQ.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, explained that the driver of the passenger bus made a wrong overtaking at a sharp bend, resulting in the head-on collision with the truck.

Akinbiyi said, “Corpses of all the dead four persons, including the driver of the bus, have been deposited at the Idiroko and Ilaro hospitals, while the five others critically injured were also deposited at the Idiroko Border General Hospital for treatment.”

On the Sagamu-Benin-Ore accident, the TRACE spokesman said the crash involved a Honda Civic car registration number Enugu CW23 ENU, suspected to be travelling from Ijebu-Ode to the eastern part of Nigeria and a hit-and-run cement truck. 

Akinbiyi said witnesses account had it that the truck ran over the Honda Civic, which had three occupants, at the Olorunpodo village along the expressway at about 9.30a.m.
