5 Ekiti farmers remanded over alleged cyberstalking, unlawful assembly

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of five young farmers in correctional custody over allegations of conspiracy, threatening violence, arranging kidnapping, offensive publication, unlawful assembly, and cyberstalking against Mrs. Yemisi Joluwe of YSJ and her staff.
The defendants include Kolawole Sule (49), Akilo Tope (41), Arinde Opeyemi (31), Funmi Olayera (45), and Oluyemi Ogundele (45).
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, said the offences are punishable under Sections 421, 46, 281, 70, and 57 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State (2021), and Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act (2024 as amended) and were committed within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District on January 23, 2026.
Inspector Oriyomi requested that the suspects be remanded pending the out outcome of a legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The defendants were represented by counsel, including Oluwafemi Alabi, O. G. Abiola, Iyanu Obamuwagun, and Joy Raphael, but their pleas were not taken.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the application and ordered the remand of the defendants.
The case was adjourned until February 24, 2026, for mention.
