Every May 1st usually marked as International Workers Day started in the 1860’s.

Back then workers campaigned for shorter working hours in many countries.

Specifically, on May 1, 1886, workers in Canada and the United States, held peaceful strikes and rallies to demand an eight-hour work day.

In Nigeria, May 1st became a national holiday in 1981 after it was declared by People Redemption Party (PRP) Government of Kano State.

The International Workers’ Day now commemorate many events in the struggle to better working condition around the world.

While commemorating the day, you can do the following activities to spice up a memorable holiday.

 

TAKE A DAY TRIP

With the whole day to yourself, you can take a road trip with friends or family members to explore your community. Visit drivable distance and enjoy the views of your environment. Make sure you have snacks and preferably fresh fruit juice to enjoy the day.

Invite friends and neighbors to a mini Olympic Games with different sporting activities that are fun, easy and engaging.
