The police in Ogun State yesterday arrested five suspected members of a cult group who recently unleashed terror on the people of Ifo town in Ifo Local Government Area and killed a 25-year-old man.

The suspects, Afeez Olapade aka Sabiko (22), Idowu Adebayo (18), Oduwaye Seyi aka Owo Aje (22), Fatai Olude (22) and Alabi Segun (22) were apprehended following a distress call received by the DPO of Ifo Division.

It was gathered that the cult group members were on rampage around Ifo market, attacking people with weapons and dispossessing them of valuables.

The spokesman of the state’s police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, said following receipt of the distress call, the DPO, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, mobilised his men and moved to the scene.

Oyeyemi said, “On getting there, they met a 25-year-old man who was identified simply as Sunday in the pool of his blood as a result of several matchet cuts.

“The policemen chased and got the five suspects and arrested them within the area. The victim was taken to the general hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

He said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for investigation.

Oyeyemi further said the CP also directed that the fleeing members of the gang should be hunted down and brought to book within the shortest possible time.
