The police have arrested five persons who are allegedly members of an armed robbery gang which killed a young man, Ekanem Ekanem Umoh, on Saturday night.

The incident happened on Asang Eniong Street off Goldie Street in Calabar South LGA.

Sources said when the armed robbers entered the house in the night, the victim, Umoh, reportedly resisted them and was stabbed in the chest and shot several times.

A brother of the deceased, Ita Ekanem, confirmed the attack, saying his brother died on the way to the hospital.

Ekanem said some members of the gang were known, adding that his brother’s wife would identify them anytime security operatives arrest them.

He added that, “So far, five of them have been arrested and detained by the police in Calabar.”

However, the state’s police spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, said he was not aware of the incident, adding that, “nobody has briefed me about it. I cannot speak about what I don’t know.”
