Oodua Trust gathered that the fight, which broke out around 7pm, started when a boy identified as Ifeanyi allegedly lighted a firework and threw it at a middle aged man.

The man, who was said to be sitting with his wife in front of his apartment at the Olorunfemi Street, Idimu, according to an eye witness, flared up in anger and beat the boy to pulp.

Our correspondent further gathered that on hearing what the man had done to Ifeanyi, his elder brother mobilised his friends on the street and headed for the man’s apartment for revenge.

The man, who was notified of the Ifeanyi’s brother’s mission, quickly mobilised another set of youths to confront the group.

The eye witness said a fierce fight later broke between the two youths who used machetes and other dangerous weapons freely for about 30 minutes.

It took the quick intervention of some landlords in the area who threatened to call the police before the situation could normalise.

The five youths who were seriously injured during the fight are still receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ejigbo area of the Lagos metropolis as at the time of filing this report.

A landlord, Alhaji Adedeji Hassan, who spoke with our correspondent, said the landlords Association in the area would, because of the fight, enforce to the letter, the ban on the throwing of firework this yuletide because of the attended danger in it.

He said all the landlords had agreed not to allow any nocturnal movement of the residents or visitors in area as part of measures to curb crimes.

A police man at the Pipeline police station Idimu, said they were not aware of the disturbance. He said, “since the landlords have decided to settle the matter between the youths, and have decided not to call us, there is no point going to the place.”
