5 injured in fresh farmers-herders crisis in FCT

Five people were reportedly injured in another clash between farmers and herders in Lukuku village, near Kache in the Paikon-Kore ward of the Gwagwalada Area Council in the FCT.
A resident of Paiko, Ibrahim Shuaibu, said the latest crisis broke out on Sunday around 6pm.
He claimed the trouble started when some herders allegedly moved their cattle into a farm. According to him, when the farmers working on the land asked the herders to move their cows, they were reportedly ignored.
He said in anger, one of the farmers used a stick to chase the cows away, which led to a serious altercation.

According to Shuaibu, the verbal insults quickly escalated, and one of the herders allegedly pulled out a cutlass and stabbed one of the farmers.
“Upon discovering that one of the farmers was stabbed, three other farmers tried to retaliate, which resulted in the three other farmers sustaining machete cuts on their forehead and legs,” he said.
The five injured farmers were taken to a hospital in Gwagwalada, where they are currently receiving treatment. Shuaibu also noted that security operatives, including the police, soldiers, and civil defense corps, have been deployed to the community to prevent the crisis from escalating.
The spokesperson for the FCT chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ahmed Dahiru, said he was not aware of the latest clash.
He explained that the MACBAN chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ciroma, was currently indisposed but assured that he would inquire about the incident and get back to our reporter.
The spokesperson for the FCT police command, SP Adeh Josephine, responded to a text message by saying, “I will confirm and get back to you.”
Abuja Metro reports that the incident follows a similar clash in the Ledi and Gurfata communities in the Gwagwalada Area Council just a few weeks ago, which resulted in the loss of four lives and seven herders being injured. Additionally, five people were also reportedly injured in a farmers-herders clash in the Gwomani community in the Kwali Area Council two weeks ago.
