A lone accident involving a commercial bus on Friday killed five people while 10 others sustained degrees of injuries on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred on Friday morning when driver of the bus conveying 18 persons lost control of the wheels due to speed and crashed into road island around Onigari, the border town of Ogun State with Oyo State.
The bus marked WWD 302CB, which was heading to Lagos from Sokoto, subsequently summersaulted and burst into flames.
The five dead victims were reportedly “burnt beyond recognition.”
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Ogun, Clement Oladele in a terse statement confirmed the incident, blaming it on loss of control and speeding.
“The lone crash involved a commercial bus that travelled all the way from Sokoto state but stopped briefly in Ibadan to pick other passengers. The bus was heading towards Lagos State before it lost control, at Onigari due to excessive speed , and collided with the road median with the bus upturning and bursting into flames.
“A total of 10 male adults sustained injuries from the crash but five of the passengers unfortunately died from the crash comprising four male adults and one female adult,” Oladele said.
He disclosed that bodies of those killed in the crash were deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Sagamu.
Oladele, however, commiserated with the families of the crash victims and advised members of the public whose relatives travelled, requiring more information about the crash, should contact the FRSC Command at KM27 Ibadan – Lagos Expressway at Ogunmakin or the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) , Sagamu.
