5 Killed, 20 Injured in Niger Road Crash

Five travelers have reportedly died on the spot, while 20 others sustained severe injuries in a fatal lone road crash on the Lapai–Agaie Road in Niger State.

The crash, which occurred in the early hours of Monday at Nami village in Agaie Local Government Area, involved a trailer loaded with about 600 bags of soybeans and 27 passengers. The vehicle was en route from Kano to Lagos.

Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the vehicle due to deplorable state of the road, veered off the road and crashed, resulting in the casualties.

Sources said the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Lapai for treatment.

The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aishat Sa’ad, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

She said the crash occurred at about 7:20 a.m. and involved a DAF trailer, adding that the vehicle was carrying 27 male passengers, out of which five died and 20 others sustained injuries.

She also confirmed that the vehicle was travelling from Kano to Lagos.
