At least five people have been killed in an attack on Tse Ameen community in Mbapa Council Ward of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Residents said the attack occurred over the weekend when suspected armed invaders stormed the community at night.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent by telephone that five bodies were recovered, while several others were still missing.
“The corpses recovered after the attack included three males and two females,” the resident said.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, who confirmed the incident, said four bodies were recovered.
“The incident is confirmed. Four dead bodies were recovered,” Edet said, declining further details.
Meanwhile, Governor Hyacinth Alia has sympathised with the people of Gwer West over the attack, which occurred on Saturday night.
The governor urged security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and called on communities to support efforts to rid the area of criminal elements.
