Five commuters were on Monday killed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, when a fuel tanker crushed a Micra car at Celica Bus Stop on the Ibadan-Ife Expressway.

A witness told our correspondent that the truck lost control and rammed into the car and that both vehicles fell into a river.

The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Winifred Chukwura, who confirmed the accident to Daily Trust, said three men and two women died in the incident.

She explained that, “The accident involved a Mack tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and a Micra car.”

In related incidents, eight people were injured in two crashes that occurred on the Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the first accident occurred when a Toyota Sienna with registration number FFA 219AA lost control and crashed into a ditch at Awawa village while it was raining.

The Abaji Unit Commander of FRSC, ACC Abubakar Shehu Dogondaji, confirmed the crash and that six people sustained injuries.

He added that two persons were injured in another crash on the same day near NIPCO Filling Station in Abaji on the same Abuja-Lokoja road.

He explained that a Mitsubishi car with registration number ABC 383 GX crashed, injuring two persons who were evacuated to the Abaji General Hospital.
