At least five people have been reported killed in an auto crash after a taxi veered off into a roadside market in Gboko town in Gboko LGA of Benue State.
Witnesses said the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 7pm at in front of Temperance Hotel at the Akaajime area of Gboko town.
A witness told our correspondent that the brake of the vehicle might have failed before it rammed into the market and killed people who were either selling or buying.
He said, “The taxi was coming from Gboko town to Mkar, Gboko, when the incident happened at Akaajime around 7pm. Five people were killed on the spot while 11 others who were badly injured were taken to private hospitals in Gboko.
“Some of the popular victims of the accident are, Manasseh Shima Buty Ukor, Terseer Pever and Iember Wan Ipav.”
Police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on telephone.
Anene, however, said two people were reported killed in the accident.
