At least five people were killed at the weekend by bandits while working on their farms at Tse Alashi village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The locals said the armed men first invaded a farm and killed three people who were on their farms, then moved to where some people were moulding burnt bricks and killed two more.

The Chairman of Guma LGA, Caleb Aba, told journalists in Makurdi that, “The incident happened in the afternoon. Bandits invaded a community called Tse Alashi and killed three people who were working on their farms. They also moved to a place where people were laying burnt bricks and killed two people.’’

The Security Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom, Lt Col Paul Hemba (Rtd), confirmed the incident, noting that, “It was an unprovoked attack on the people who were on their farms working when they were surrounded and killed.”

The police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack, but said she was yet to receive report of the killings.
