Five victims who were abducted by gunmen in the Odo-Ekun community, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State have been released.

The victims, three females and two men, including a mother and her daughter, were Fulani farmers who lived in the community.

They were abducted around 1:00 am last Tuesday when the kidnappers, amidst heavy shooting, stormed their settlement and matched them into the forest.

Speaking on their release Monday, the Secretary General of Odo-Eku Community, Abdulfatai Ibraheem Toloba, said they were released on Sunday after a lot of frantic efforts.

Chairman of the council, Benjamin Jolayemi told Daily Trust that they had mobilised men to the forest since Friday before their release weekend.

 

He added that “I don’t know if ransom was paid”.

Spokesperson for the state police command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (SP) confirmed the incident to our reporter on Monday.

“Yes, they have been released according to the latest information. But no arrest has been made. Other details will follow later”, she said.

However, our correspondent gathered that their release followed the payment of an undisclosed amount of ransom to the kidnappers.
