As the political season reaches it’s peak today, and the electorate head to the polls to cast their vote, Weekend Magazine takes a look at celebrities who have been politically active through the campaign period.

Yul Edochie

Edochie went the whole hog and declared his intention of contesting for governor in the state of Anambra after the Not Too Young To Run bill was passed last year. He has a big supporter of the movement, and continues to make bolder steps in the political sphere.

 

2Baba

2Baba has long before now been very vocal on issues concerning politicians and elections. Alongside musicians Teni, Waje, M.I and Chidinma, they released a single titled ‘Not For Sale,’ heeding Nigerians to cast their votes diligently. He also done a lot of advocacy against election violence with the slogan, ‘Election No Be War’ campaign.

 

Desmond Elliot

Representing the Surulere consistency in Lagos State House of Assembly, the former actor has been very proactive in campaigning as also went along with a number of celebrities to the APC presidential campaign rally that held just last week.

 

Davido

Davido has been spotted at campaign rallies, championing his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, the former PDP gubernatorial candidate, while he was contesting for governor. But Davido recently revealed that he does not stand with any party anymore, but is supporting the Defend Your Vote initiative, making it clear that every Nigerian should continue to fight for democracy, like generations before us and let our voices be heard.

The ‘Soco’ crooner hasn’t been to keen on speaking about politics before. But in recent times, and due to the build up to elections, he voiced what he felt towards the electoral process saying on his Snapchat that the electorate shouldn’t allow anyone to influence who they choose to vote and also, urging all politicians to be more responsible and take more rational decisions.
