Five suspected armed robbers alleged to have killed a police officer have been arraigned before an FCT High Court in Apo.

The defendants: Samuel Kaka, 45; Abdulsalam Musa, 26; Sanusi Ibrahim, 34; Elisha Moses, 30; Prosper Amakwe, 32, and Michael Usman, 24, were accused of culpable homicide, robbery, causing grievous hurt and criminal conspiracy.

The charge against them alleged that they committed the offences on Jan. 26, 2016 when they burgled two residences belonging to Messrs Kaloma Mustapha and Oscar Igbokwe, both of No. 53 Parakou Crescent Wuse 2, and No. 100 River Niger Maitama, Abuja, respectively.

They were alleged to have shot and killed one Police Corporal Nathaniel Danladi, and made away with his rifle.

They were also accused of stealing telephones, laptop, computer, iPad, wrist watches, jewelries and others valuables from the burgled residences.

It was further alleged that police operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles from Amakwe’s residence after his arrest.

The offences contravened sections 97 (1) and 289 of the Penal Code. They however pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them.

The trial judge, Justice Idris Kutigi, ordered that the defendants be transferred from Keffi Prison to Kuje Prison in the FCT and adjourned the case to Feb. 14 for hearing.
