Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested five suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim following a gun duel.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Eno Ikoedem, said the suspects were apprehended by operatives attached to the Ewu Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters.

The spokesperson added that the police received a distress call from the Ochodo community regarding a kidnapped victim and immediately mobilized for a rescue operation.

She said the suspects engaged the security team in a gun battle but were eventually dislodged from their hideout in Igun Forest, Agbede.

This, she added, led to the arrest of the suspects and the rescue of the victim unhurt.

She said the suspects—identified as Nura Ibrahim (22), Suleiman Aruna (23), Usman Abubakar (30), Mohammed Abubakar (32), and Isah Ibrahim (27)—were arrested at their hideout in the Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

According to her, items recovered from the suspects include eight rounds of 9mm live ammunition, nine empty shells, five Android phones, and one motorcycle.

The spokesperson assured that the case is currently under investigation and that the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion.
