The National President of the African Women Entrepreneurship Programme (AWEP), Hajiya Zainab Jaji, has expressed her happiness in seeing many women involved in small scale businesses.

 Speaking, Tuesday, at the 2016 conference and annual general meeting of the African Women’s Entrepreneurship programme in Abuja, she said: “Women make up to 50 percent of participants in economic activities, with many of them involved in small scale businesses. Women, either in urban or rural areas, are always in the forefront of businesses and creating jobs for others, thereby fostering economic growth in the country.”

 Zainab said that AWEP aimed to engage women and equip them with tools to grow their businesses to enable them become leaders in their community.

 She urged women to be creative in business to withstand the economic challenges.

 While delivering a keynote address, the chairperson of the occasion, Dr Asmau Abdulkadri, urged women to embrace the AWEP to upgrade their business.

She described the AWEP as platform that could help in moving Nigeria forward, especially at a time like this when most countries in Africa were experiencing economic difficulty.
