The Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria in collaboration with two lawmakers from Kaduna State conducted free surgery operations on about 500 patients suffering a range of ailments.
The President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), ABUTH branch, Dr. Aliyu Dahiru Waziri, said the free surgery collaboration was included in the 2016 ARD’s Week.
He said those that benefitted from the exercise included lipoma, hernia, hydrocele, appendicitis and fibroid patients drawn from Zaria, Sabon Gari, Kudan, Makarfi, Ikara, Soba, Lere and Kubau local government areas.
“Annually, we carry out some activities such as community outreach, free surgical operations to patients, free medication as well as visitations to orphanage homes. These are all in line with the culture of this association. I am excited that we are collaborating with two lawmakers in this humanitarian activity,” Dr. Waziri said.
The senator representing northern Kaduna, Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and member representing Waje state constituency, Muhammad Dan’asabe Chokali, were the two lawmakers who contributed to the free surgeries.
Chokali said he provided N3 million for the free surgery in addition to other incentives to his constituents.
