No fewer than 500 officers of the Nigeria police force in Kano have benefitted from motorcycle scheme of Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris.

The scheme which would be replicated in all 36 states of the federation was aimed at ameliorating the challenges of the officers in the discharge of their duties.

Presenting the motorcycles to the beneficiaries yesterday at the Kano state police headquarters, Assistant Inspector General of Police zone 1, AIG Dan Bature described the gesture as a demonstration of the IGP’s commitment to the welfare of police officers.

He urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture through rededication to duty saying that would encourage  the IGP to do more in improving police welfare.

“We are here to launch the first phase of the distribution of motorcycles to inspectors and rank and files. What is expected of us is to support the IG so that he can fight for us more; the only way we can do this is by doing what is expected of us in performing your duty well, respecting the fundamental human rights of Nigerians, being courteous to members of the public to win their trust. Once we get public trust, our work will be easier,’’ he said.

On his part the CP Kano state police command, Rabiu Yusuf  warned the beneficiaries to resist the temptation of selling off the motorcycles, saying it was meant to improve their welfare.

The Katukan Kano, and District Head of Albasu, AIG Bashir Abdullahi Albasu (rtd)  represented the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II at the flag-off ceremony.
