At least 500 youth of Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra state, at the weekend, renounced cultism, drug abuse and related crimes in the area.

The repentant cultists, dressed in white jersey, converged at the community town hall from where they marched through the major roads in a peaceful procession.

Addressing the ex-cultists, a stakeholder in the community, Obum Osaka, said the campaign on zero tolerance to criminalities was targeted at making the youths useful citizens.

Also speaking, the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Alex Onyido, attributed criminal tendencies to the unemployment problem facing the country, calling on the federal government to create employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths,

He advocated the inclusion of programmes to enlighten youths on negative effects of drug abuse in schools curricular, cautioning them to eschew cultism, communal fighting, and other social vices.
