Over 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and less privileged are expected to benefit from the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative (PCNI) ongoing free medical services in Gombe.

The PCNI had on Monday launched the free medical outreach for the IDPs and people that are unable to access medical care at the Women and Children Hospital, Gombe.

The Vice Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Tijjani Tumsa, said the health intervention programme was initiated by the PCNI to provide free medical services to IDPs and other less privileged members of the society.

“We are targeting about 5000 from children to adult, but we always surpassed our target; now, our target is to accommodate whatever number of persons that are able to come to the venue of the exercise during the seven days of the outreach.

“It is a programme that is modelled into the strategic framework of President Muhammadu Buhari’s plan, it is a very good idea and a lot of people are accessing healthcare, like eyes and dental care, paediatric and surgical operations among others which comes at no cost,” he said.

Tumsa said over 30 medical doctors, 70 nurses and other healthcare workers are engaged by PCNI as volunteers to provide the free healthcare services during the period of the outreach.
