The third phase of the RIFAN/CBN Anchor-Borrower programme has been launched in Sokoto with 50,000 farmers to benefit.
Speaking at the flag-off of distribution of inputs, CBN representatives Faruk Abdullahi said adequate arrangement had been put in place towards a hitch-free exercise.
The previous exercise witnessed a hitch but this time around, strategies had been perfected to avoid the pitfalls, he assured.
Sokoto State chairman RIFAN Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim described the programme as laudable.
He disclosed that it initially targeted 100,000 rice farmers in Sokoto but that the number dropped to 50,000 due to bank guidelines bordering on Bank Verification Number (BVN).
The RIFAN chairman however said the distribution would cover the 23 local government areas of the state using nine centres at Goronyo, Sabon Birni, Wurno,Binji, Shagari,Sokoto I, Sokoto II, Gwadabawa, and Tambuwal.
Ibrahim applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the initiatives aimed at turning around the agricultural sector.
He noted that if given second chance, President Buhari would boost support to rice farmers across Nigeria to feed the country with local rice instead of importing the foreign variety.
