A 51-year-old man, Wakili Umaru, has been dragged before an Ore, Ondo State, chief magistrate court for allegedly stealing 12 cows.
Umaru was said to have stolen the cows, valued at N2,680,000, from Alhaji Abubakar Shehu.
The defendant was arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Amuda Jimoh, told the court that the defendant committed the offence with some other persons still at large on February 20, 2018 at about 1am at the Costain area, Ore.
Count Two of the charge against Umaru alleged that he stole five cows valued at N1.2 million belonging to Alhaji Shehu, while Count Three stated he and others still at large stole seven cows valued at N1.48m, property of Alhaji Shehu, sometime in August 2019 at about 2am at Asejire.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Jimoh informed the court that he would be presenting three witnesses and prayed for a short date to enable him assemble witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Abaugwu Uche, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, with a promise he would not jump bail.
Magistrate O. A. Omofolarin granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till July 7, 2020.
