519 bag first class as FUTA graduates over 6,000

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has said a total of 519 students bagged first-class degrees for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions in the institution. 

The graduates are among the 6,405 undergraduates and postgraduate students set for convocation. 

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, disclosed this at a press conference to herald the activities lined up for the institution’s convocation ceremony. 

He said the convocation event is to be presided over by FUTA Chancellor, HRH Umar Farouk, the Emir of Katagum.

According to her, the graduates, who are a combined set of the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, were made up of 4,591 males, and 1,814 females.

She added that the university would also confer postgraduate diplomas, masters and doctoral degrees on 960 postgraduate students. 

Oladiji explained that out of the number, 299 would be awarded postgraduate diplomas, two M-Phil, three M-Phil/PhD, 536 masters while 120 would bag doctorate degrees. 

“Out of the total number, 519 students have first class, 3,408 have second class honours (upper division), 2,139 students finished with second class honours (lower division), and 339 third class,” she said. 

The VC also said the convocation lecture, titled ‘Technology Innovation: A Panacea to Food Insecurity’, would be delivered by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
