The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 54 suspected drug traffickers in the state during the month of September.

The state’s NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, who disclosed this, said the suspects were arrested with 1,506.57kg of various narcotic drugs.

He noted that the 54 suspects include 43 males and 11 females.

He listed the seized drugs to include cannabis sativa, psychotropic substances, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin. 

According to Ofoyeju, two of the suspects, Kabiru Abdulahi (35) and Anas Safiyanu (20), were arrested on the Warrake-Auchi Road with a truck conveying 82 bags of cannabis concealed in bags of charcoal.

He added that another male suspect, Etiosa Bazuaye (43), was apprehended with ninety-eight pinches of crack cocaine weighing hidden in a wooden stool.

Ofoyeju further disclosed that the agency secured one conviction and charged four suspects to court during the period, while 118 cases are ongoing at the Federal High Court in Benin City.

The command also provided counselling services to 32 individuals involved in drug use, including rehabilitation support for ten clients.

He assured that the command will not relent in its effort to rid the state of illicit drugs.
