No fewer than 55 kids yesterday served off at the maiden edition of the U-16 Tennista Foundation Open Junior Tournament, held at the Rowe Park Tennis Court in Yaba, Lagos.
The 55 players comprising both male and female players displayed exceptional skill and enthusiasm.
The President, Tennista Foundation, Michael Nwoseh, described the tournament as more than just a competition, but a platform to unearth and celebrate talent, passion, and potential.
He added that it reflects the foundation’s unwavering belief in the power of sport not only to transform lives but also to shape resilient, focused, and confident leaders of tomorrow.

“At Tennista Foundation, we are committed to creating safe and empowering spaces for young people to dream big, develop grit, and discover the greatness within them.
“Through tennis, we teach discipline, determination, and the value of fair play values that go far beyond the court,” he said.
Frank Tarmena, the Lawn tennis coach of the Lagos State Sports Commission stressed that the tournament serve as the platform to harness talents for the National Sports Festival (NSF) slated to hold in May.
“Tournaments like this are excellent. You can see from the start, you are beginning to see the kids showcasing their talent. You are beginning to see the potential and a future generation of big tennis stars in Lagos State and in Nigeria.
“It is also coming at the right time because we in the Lagos State Sports Commission, we need this at this time because we need to harness players towards the National Sports Festival is coming” he said.
The tournament will run through April 19, 2025, with exciting matches and a prize presentation ceremony to round off the event.
