The victim was discovered to have been raped by her teachers, who reported the matter to the police which led to the arrest of the convict, Barrister Aisha Mahmud, a senior state counsel who won the conviction against the rapist told Pyramid Trust. Mohammed was represented by Barrister N. O. Ishola of the legal Aid Council.

Six prosecution witnesses testified during the rape trial before Justice Dije Abdu Aboki at Miller Road High Court complex. While giving judgment in the matter last Monday, Justice Dije said she was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that the convict committed the offence and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour. Justice Dije also ordered the convict to pay the sum of N50,000 to the victim as medical expenses or serve additional 18 months in jail.
