Disclosing this at the flagoff in Dutse, Director of MTN Foundation, Aisha Sadauki, said under the first phase of the project,10,000 patients will be screened for cataracts and other eye diseases; 2000 cataract surgeries will be performed,2000 reading glasses and 2000 drugs will be distributed free of charge.
Jigawa Deputy Governor Ahmed Mahmud who represented Governor Sule Lamido at the occasion, said the state government from 2007 to date has spent over N350 million on eye related illnesses while over 25,000 people with cataract have been operated upon.
Mahmud also informed the gathering that about 60,000 lid surgeries have been conducted in the state while over 7,200,000 doses of Metzican and Albendazole tablets were distributed free to the people.
