Six persons have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Nomansland, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State over allegations bordering on the murder of three housewives and six children in separate incidents across the state.
The accused persons are alleged to have been involved in the killing of two housewives in the Tudun Yola quarters, as well as a woman and her six children in the Chiranchi quarters.
The defendants were arraigned by state counsel, Barrister Salisu Tahir and Barrister Abdullahi Ibrahim Mohammed, on a five-count charge including conspiracy, trespass, armed robbery, rape, and murder.
Those named in the charges include Umar Auwal, Yakubu Dayyabu, Isyaku Yakubu, and Umar Ali, among others.
During the proceedings, the prosecution informed the court that the case file has been transmitted to State High Court No. 11, sitting in Bompai, under Justice Nasir Sani. Consequently, the matter has been adjourned to Wednesday, April 1, for hearing.
On the defence side, Barrister A.S. Tukur informed the court of his intention to represent the accused persons pro bono.
He was joined by Barrister Aisha Garba and Barrister Amina Umar, who also announced their appearances as defense counsel under the aegis of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
