Six persons, including a baby, were killed in a tragic accident along the Lambata-Lapai road in Niger State.
Rescue workers told Daily Trust that the accident occurred around midnight on Wednesday when a Golf car carrying eight passengers on its way to Niger Republic collided head-on with a Lagos-bound passenger bus near Lapai town, the headquarters of Lapai LGA in Niger State.
One of the rescuers, Mohammed Abdullahi, confirmed that six passengers in the Golf, including a baby, died at the scene. The Golf’s driver and one passenger, Lawal Ibrahim, survived without injuries.
Of the 14 passengers aboard the bus, nine sustained various injuries and were transported to Lapai General Hospital for treatment.

In a phone conversation from Lapai General Hospital, Lawal Ibrahim, a survivor of the Golf car, reported that the driver fled the scene, taking with him Ibrahim’s phone and N199,000 in cash found on one of the deceased passengers.
He said despite efforts, the driver had not been located.
Sources revealed that the bodies of the six deceased passengers remain at Lapai General Hospital.
The Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kumar Tsukwam, could not be reached for comments.
