Six persons have been arraigned before a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti for malicious damage to the building housing Ikole Local Government Council secretariat.

The defendants are Adebayo Temitope (32), Ibrahim Musbau (25), Eze Oluwabunmi (22), Peter Joy (21), Ogunlusi Abiodun Ige (20) and Arowosegbe Esther (17).

The prosecutor, Inspector Leramo Celeb, told the court that the defendants and others still at large on or about October 20, 2020, at about 12:00pm in Ikole-Ekiti conspired to carry out a crime of malicious damage, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

Inspect Celeb noted that on the same date and at the same time, the defendants did wilfully and maliciously damaged Ikole LGA secretariat building and the windscreens of five vehicles, property of Ekiti State government, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor added that the defendants and others still at large on the same date, time and place unlawfully assembled in a riotous manner, thereby committing an offence publishable under Section 71 of the Criminal Code, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

All the defendants were represented by different counsel and they urged the court to grant their clients bail, promising that they would produce them in court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Andulhamid Lawal, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each  and two sureties each, then adjourned the case to December 9, 2020.
