A bus conveying Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) was involved in an accident along the Lokoja–Okene road on Wednesday, killing six passengers and leaving 13 others injured.

The incident occurred in the late afternoon as the victims were returning to Okene after attending an event marking the 2025 International Day of Persons With Disabilities at the Government House, Lokoja. The injured are currently receiving medical attention at various health facilities across the state.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the tragedy as a source of profound sorrow for both the government and the people of the state.

He said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had directed that the state government would cover all medical bills for the injured and ensure government officials are deployed to the hospitals to provide support to victims and their families.

Fanwo said, “The Kogi State Government regrets to announce a tragic accident involving a bus carrying some of our citizens returning from the 2025 International Day of Persons With Disabilities commemoration.

“The unfortunate accident claimed six precious lives, while thirteen others sustained varying degrees of injuries. We mourn deeply with the families of the deceased and stand in solidarity with the affected communities.”
