Gunmen on Sunday night killed at least six persons in the Ikn’gwakap community of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Similarly, the kidnapped Ward Head of Shuwaka community of Kyaram District in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Malam Hudu Hassan Barau, has been killed by his abductors.

Residents of Ikn’gwakap community told Daily Trust that the gunmen, in large numbers, stormed the attacked community at midnight and started shooting sporadically. The perpetrators also set several houses ablaze.

Kutyil Gashion Nahum, the National Publicity Secretary of the Mushere Youth Movement, confirmed the development on Monday, explaining that many people are still missing.

He said, “On the night of Sunday, September 14, 2025, six innocent persons, including women and children, were brutally murdered in their sleep in Ikn’gwakap, the headquarters of Mushere Chiefdom.

“It is both alarming and unacceptable that despite repeated attacks on Mushere communities, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or neutralized. This persistent failure highlights the urgent need for a total overhaul of the security architecture in the area.

“We therefore call on the government at all levels to rise to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property. The continued silence and inaction only embolden terrorists to perpetrate more violence on defenseless communities.

“While demanding immediate and decisive action, we equally urge all citizens across Mushere and Bokkos to remain vigilant, united, and proactive in safeguarding their communities, even as we continue to press peacefully and firmly for justice and lasting peace.

“The blood of our people must not continue to be shed in vain. The time for decisive action is now.” the Publicity Secretary added.

Spokespersons of Operation Enduring Peace and that of the police in the state, Major Samson Zhakom and DSP Alabo Alfred are yet to respond to SMS by our correspondent regarding the attack.

Meanwhile, the Ward Head of Shuwaka community of Kyaram District in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, Malam Hudu Hassan Barau, has been killed by his abductors.

Barrister Garba G. Aliyu and ND Shehu Kanam, the Chairman and Secretary of the Kanam Development Association, confirmed the abduction and killing of the ward head.

They said his body was discovered on Monday morning, six days after his abduction.

The community, which described the incident as senseless, said the deceased’s lifeless body was recovered from the bush around the Wanka forest on Monday.

The secretary, ND Shehu Kanam, said, “This heart-wrenching incident is a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity and banditry that has plagued our communities for far too long. Despite our repeated pleas and warnings, the government across all levels has failed to take decisive action to address this menace.

The spokesperson for the police in the state is yet to respond to the inquiry regarding the development as at press time.
